Scholarships

Georgina benefitted tremendously from the professional training she received at the Royal College of Music (RCM) and blossomed as a singer during her time at Indiana University’s (IU) Jacobs School of Music. The Foundation established three scholarships partnering with RCM and IU for applicants whose life and outlook embodies the characteristics for which Georgina Joshi was known and admired. Award recipients must display intellectual curiosity about music and the humanities in general, superior musical and vocal talent, and most importantly, a warm and generous personality.

The Georgina Joshi Scholarship at the Royal College of Music (RCM)
The Georgina Joshi Award was awarded to celebrate Georgina’s life as a singer and her affiliation with RCM. This one-time scholarship was awarded to Suzanne Shakespeare so that she could take full advantage of the tremendous opportunities available to her, as a student, at RCM and in London.

The scholarship covered full tuition and fees to attend the Benjamin Britten International Opera School at the Royal College of Music in London and provide a maintenance grant for living expenses, and cultural activities while attending the school.

The Georgina Joshi Fellowship for Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music
This graduate fellowship covers tuition, books, fees, living expenses, and other cost associated with living and studying in Bloomington, Indiana for students wishing to study voice and/or opera at the Jacobs School. These costs may include participating in cultural experiences, hiring private coaches, travel costs, and related expenses for auditioning purposes, and other costs that would ultimately increase the likelihood of the successful beginning of a professional voice and/or opera career. The Fellowship is renewable for one year.

Interested applicants must apply through the IU Jacob School of Music. The Foundation is not involved in the selection process.

The Georgina Joshi International Fellowship for Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music
This scholarship initially linked Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music and Royal College of Music, two schools Georgina attended and from which she learned so much by providing funding to allow a Jacobs School of Music student to study two years in the Artist Diploma program at the Benjamin Britten International Opera School at Royal College of Music in London.

The International Fellowship encourages Jacobs School of Music graduate students to participate in international educational and audition experiences by providing funding for such experiences. Students are encouraged to research international opportunities that will help them reach specific objectives and to submit a written plan for consideration.

This scholarship is administered by the IU Foundation. To learn more or to apply please contact:
